Angkor Wat
Sunrise & Sunset tours of the World Heritage site of Angkor Wat, the largest religious monument in the World & the old capital of what was one thousand years ago the greatest civilization on Earth. There are hundreds of temples in the Angkor Archaeological Park, and most volunteers will take a few days out to explore the most stunning man-made monuments that Cambodia and perhaps even Southeast Asia has to offer. The Wikipedia Ankgor Wat page and the Angkor What website are both good sources of information.
Tonle Sap Lake
Guided boat tours of the floating villages & flooded forests of the UNESCO designated ecological hotspot that is the Tonle Sap lake. A unique biosphere which grows to around 30,000 square km and shrinks to a quarter of that size every year - volunteers will often rent a boat for a day or go on one of the guided tours. The Tara Riverboat website is a good source of information on the Tonle Sap and tours of the lake.
Tour the Countryside
Horse, ox-cart, elephant, bicycle, moto, tuk-tuk & helicopter tours of the picturesque countryside of rural Cambodia. Siem Reap is a stunning province, with rolling paddy fields & coconut trees aplenty - volunteers are recommended to use one of these modes of transport and to simply explore. For more information, go to: Cycle Kampuchea Bicycle Tours, Quad Adventure Cambodia, Helicopters Cambodia, Sokha Helicopters, Buffalo Trails, Hidden Cambodia Tours, Terre Cambodge Tours & Biking Cambodia Tours for more information.
Learn about Cambodia's Past
Educational trips to learn about the horrific genocide of the Khmer Rouge at the National Museum or the Killing Fields in Phnom Penh. The Khmer Rouge killed more than 1.7 million people during their four years in power in the 1970's, and are much to blame for the state Cambodia finds itself in today. It is our belief that all who volunteer in Cambodia should make an effort to learn about Cambodia's past. Click here to read more about Cambodian history.
Experience the Culture
Cultural excursions where you can see & buy traditional Khmer arts & crafts are popular with volunteers. Watch some Apsara dancing or learn about Khmer cuisine at a cooking class. Le Tigre de Papier offers a popular cooking class - and we will also offer cooking and language lessons upon request.
