• Is keen to take initiative and ownership over their work and drive the organization forward.
• Feels that they can transfer valuable capabilities to our local Khmer managers
• Is excited, rather than daunted, by the challenges of living and working abroad.
• Will respond to the challenges that will inevitably arise from working in a developing country with creativity and ingenuity.

WE WANT YOU!

From Our Founders:

 After two years of volunteer work in remote regions of Australia, we returned to Europe and tried to settle back into the Western rat-race. After enjoying the best two years of our life as volunteers, we realized that the decadence and excess that typifies life in the West was not for us. So in November 2007 we packed our bags, booked a one way ticket to Siem Reap, and made a long term commitment to use our skills and funds to help the people of Cambodia.

We are in to our 4th year here...  And now, we are asking you to join us!

If you have skills to offer, time to commit, and you share our drive and enthusiasm to bring about positive change in the World, then get in touch. Tell us about yourself, your skills and experience, why you would like to volunteer with us and what you can offer Cambodia.

The words of other Ex-LTVers;

Max - from Canada spent 6 months from the Fall of 2010 to early 2011 with MaD Cambodia:
"Working with MaD over the last 6 months has been exactly the kind of meaningful and challenging experience I had been craving after graduating from university. Making a difference – a real difference – in someone’s life is not always an easy thing to do. As a long-term volunteer with MaD, you will not only have the opportunity to design and implement projects that make a positive impact on the lives of poor rural villagers, you will also get to build close, memorable relationships with them, which make the experience all the more satisfying. It is a demanding role, and you will be challenged in unexpected ways. But you will also learn more than you ever thought you could and propel the organization forward in a manner you never thought possible."

Alexandra - Canada spent 6 months from the Fall of 2010 to early 2011 with MaD Cambodia:
"Working with MaD as a long-term volunteer is not only an amazing opportunity to obtain firsthand development experience on the ground with a community-based NGO, but is also an incredibly versatile one. For myself, as a recent university graduate, it provided the rare opportunity to have significant responsibility and autonomy so soon after graduation. In this time I have had the opportunity to put much of what I have studied to practice and learned loads more along the way. However, for an established professional the long-term volunteer program with MaD also has the potential to be incredibly rewarding. While providing a break from the ‘rat race’, working on the ground in Cambodia can provide the international and cross-cultural experience that are of significant value to Western-based employers. So, whether you are looking for a place to begin your professional experience, to take a break from the grind back home, or to develop the skills necessary to launch your career forward (potentially into a new direction!) MaD may very well be the place for you! Working with MaD, you will push and challenge yourself in ways you had never imagined, all the while connecting with like-minded individuals, Cambodian culture, and members from the local community. This experience promises to be truly unforgettable."

Chris - UK Spent 6 months in early 2010 with MaD Cambodia:
"For those interested in a career in international development or the non-profit sector in general then doing a long-term volunteer placement with MaD is an amazing way to gain invaluable experience and build up crucial skills. You will get first hand experience into the workings a committed grassroots NGO, into the problems that face impoverished rural communities in developing countries and into the many difficulties that face people trying to lift such communities out of poverty. Make no mistake, it's not easy work, and each day you will be challenged, frustrated and have to use your imagination and intuition to overcome the many problems that development workers face (but then again, if you found it easy then you probably wouldn't be doing your job properly!) Not only that, but you'll get to live in the beautiful country that is Cambodia, meet inspiring people, make amazing friends and in general have the time of your life!"

Dave - Australia Spent 6 months in early 2010 with MaD Cambodia on Medical:
"My advice to anyone who is thinking about volunteering with MaD is, “Stop thinking about it and do it. Just do it. You won’t regret it”. One of my biggest concerns prior to leaving Australia to begin my volunteering adventure was how I was going to adjust to life in rural Cambodia. I had travelled quite a lot previously, but never as a volunteer, and I really didn’t know that much about what I getting myself into. I deliberately hadn’t asked too many questions about the actual volunteer programme or the living conditions as I wanted to be able to arrive without too many pre-conceived ideas about what I would be doing and who I would be working with. I had exchanged a few emails with Phil and was (more or less) convinced that I was doing the right thing. Within 24 hours of arriving I felt that I was part of the MaD family, and that feeling only got stronger as the months ticked by. It was a wonderful feeling to be a part of a team that managed, day after day, time after time, to pull something amazing out of the apparent chaos that is daily life in Siem Reap. De-worming several hundred children in a day springs to mind. Or holding a clinic for monks in the grounds of a pagoda during the tuk-tuk challenge. Eventually, as my time to leave got closer, I came to realise that my biggest concern about leaving was how was I going to adjust to life in suburban Adelaide? How was I going to cope without my MaD family around me? That pretty much sums up my experience in Cambodia: it turned my life around. Since coming back to Australia and back to paid work, I have found a whole new appreciation of things that I had hardly noticed before. I enjoy my job more than ever, and I think I’m actually better at it. My relationships with my friends and family are so much more special now, simply because I realise how special they are. I went to Cambodia with the idea that I would be able to give something to some people who were less fortunate than myself. I had no idea how much they would end up giving to me."
